Look at this product as the multiple choice version of Close Reading. The assessment that follows the Chinese New Year article will require student to look back and reread certain portions of the text in order to arrive at the correct answer.

An Informational Text Passage entitled “The Chinese New Year”
A reading comprehension Assessment
Student Answer Sheet
Craftivity/Foldable that corresponds with the passage
Teacher Answer Key
Craftivity/Foldable Directions (easy as could be! … no-prep required)
Sign entitled “Fun Festivities of the Chinese New Year” (for classroom/bulletin board display)

*Assessment contains 8 multiple choice questions and 1 short response question (all reflecting the Common Core Standards)

**Students record their short response answer on the Chinese lantern foldable provided. After that? They color, cut, and fold their way to creative lanterns for classroom display.

*** Student won’t even realize they’re reading complex text, as the information provided about the Chinese New Year is very engaging.

****Because “reading levels” are quite subjective; this passage can be used for students grades 3-5. Take a look at the first page of the text in the preview text so that you can get an idea of the complexity level.

***** Like all of our test prep material, you will find that this non-fiction (informational text) passage will mimic the intensity that your students will encounter on this year’s Common Core Standardized Reading Exams. The students will be required to engage in active and close reading in order to be successful. All paragraphs are numbered for questions that require the student to “look back” and analyze a particular aspect of the text.
